Live fire in Halifax, bus bursts into flames and residents hear explosions

Local resident Sophie, who lives across the road from the incident, told Yorkshire Live: “I had just got back from taking the kids to school and doing some groceries and got out of the car and saw smoke. I heard a woman on the bus shouting that there was a fire.

“I was going to call the fire department, but someone working nearby had already called them.

“It was initially a small fire that started under the bus. Fortunately there was only one passenger on the bus who alerted the driver to the fire and he also got out. It all happened quickly, the fire spread from under the bus in all directions within 5/10 minutes and the fire engine arrived shortly afterwards and put out the fire.

“It was quite worrying because they couldn’t block the road straight away so cars were still passing but when the fire engine arrived they managed to close the road.

“I was worried because there are apartments for elderly people right behind the bus stop. I was worried about them if it wasn’t put out quickly. I moved my car because it was parked nearby and I was worried that if it spread, more cars would come.

“Luckily the fire department responded really quickly and put out the fire.”
