Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees Meeting – Hi-Line Today

(Havre) – The Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees held its monthly meeting Tuesday evening. The board heard from Brett Duval of Trans Tax, who gave the board a presentation on potential tax breaks for the electric buses currently used in the district. The board unanimously approved a three-year contract with Trans Tax, pending approval of the contract language by the district’s attorney from the Montana School Boards Association. In other action, the board approved the Teamsters’ contract with the district for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years, and approved a request from the high school’s Future Farmers of America club to travel out of state.

In his report, Superintendent Brian Gum informed the board of several issues. First, the Havre Public Schools daycare will receive its first ever increase in daycare. Havre Public Schools will also open the daycare facility to school board members and coaches who do not work for Havre Public Schools. Superintendent Gum also reported that the Havre High School stage repair project is nearly complete. The school board approved spending up to $25,000 in elementary and secondary school aid funds to repair the stage. The cost of the stage project was only $5,000. Superintendent Gum and HPS Director of Facilities and Transportation Scott Fillius were able to take the remaining $20,000 in ESSER funds and change the scope of the project from the Montana Office of Public Instruction to repairing the roof at Havre High School. Finally, Principal Gum announced that the structure behind Blue Pony Stadium, which was used when MSU-Northern played at the stadium, will be removed by the district prior to the start of the 2024 high school football season.

The next meeting of the Havre Public Schools Board of Trustees will be held on Tuesday, August 13, at 6:30 p.m. in the Havre High School Assembly Room.
