VICTORIA, July 9 – The Chinese hospital ship Peace Ark arrived in the Seychelles, the first stop of Harmonious Mission 2024, for a seven-day friendly visit and humanitarian medical assistance on July 5, local time. This is the second visit of the hospital ship Peace Ark to the Seychelles in 14 years, after its last visit in 2010.

The Peace Ark arrived at Port Victoria at 10 a.m. and received a grand welcome ceremony organized by the Seychelles side at the dock. Seychelles Health Minister Peggy Vidot and Chief of Defense Michael Rosette attended the ceremony and toured the ship. Seychelles military and government officials, Chinese Ambassador to Seychelles Lin Nan and other embassy staff, representatives of Chinese-funded institutions and Chinese overseas welcomed the ship at the dock.

Over the next seven days, Peace Ark will provide medical services to local patients through onboard facilities, while also sending medical teams to conduct free clinical activities and academic exchanges in local hospitals and communities. A 19th Chinese medical team sent to Seychelles will assist in providing services throughout the process.

As of July 7, visiting medical staff have treated more than 1,000 patients, performing cataract surgeries, superficial tumor excisions, gastrointestinal endoscopies, and numerous tests. These efforts have been warmly welcomed by local residents.
