Comparing Akufo-Addo’s Achievements to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Achievements: An Offensive and Totally Wrong Comparison

The attempt by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh to compare Nana Addo to Dr. Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah following his uninspiring election campaign to replace the unsuccessful NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is a misguided and insulting affront to the legacy of Ghana’s founding father.

Dr. Nkrumah’s unparalleled contribution to Ghana’s independence and development is undeniable and any comparison with Nana Addo is unfair and illogical.
The differences in the vision, influence and legacy of the two leaders are enormous.

Dr. Nkrumah’s vision, leadership and progress are unmatched in the history of Ghana.

Nkrumah’s legacy and achievements extend to all regions of Ghana, with even Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s Ashanti region benefiting greatly from his achievements and profound influence.

Here are some of Nkrumah’s achievements in the Ashanti region;

  1. Opening of the Komfo Anokye University Hospital in Kumasi, a leading medical facility in West Africa.
  2. Construction of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, a prestigious university in Ghana.
  3. Expansion of the Kumasi Central Market and revitalization of the regional economy.
  4. Development of the road network in the Ashanti Region, including the construction of the Kumasi-Accra highway, improving transport and connectivity.
  5. Establishment of a shoe factory and a jute factory in Kumasi.

On a national scale, the achievements of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah are even more noteworthy.

The milestones he has achieved include:

  • Free and compulsory primary education was introduced and renowned universities such as the University of Ghana and the University of Cape Coast were founded.
  • Korle Bu University Hospital built.
  • Many educational and technical institutions were established throughout the country.
  • Tema port was built
  • Accra International Airport was built, later renamed Kotoka International Airport.

Is Mathew Opoku Prempeh not strangely suggesting that the Nana Akufo-Addo administration, which plunged the country into economic crisis through unprecedented debt, debt woes, stinking corruption and ineffective leadership, is somehow superior to the transformational leadership of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which ushered Ghana into a new era of development and progress?

Under the visionary leadership of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana became a symbol of hope and a star in Africa, setting an example for other countries to follow.

Sadly, Ghana has become a laughing stock due to the disastrous actions of the Akufo Addo-Bawumia government.

As Minister of Energy, NAPO should recognise the importance of Kwame Nkrumah’s Akosombo Dam, a key infrastructure project that to this day generates over 30 per cent of Ghana’s electricity needs.

NAPO must retract its statement and apologise for attempting to maliciously rewrite history.

The legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah is sacred and any attempt to diminish it will be met with fierce resistance.

The people of Ghana will not tolerate any attempts to distort the country’s history or undermine the legacy of its founding fathers.

The immortal legacy of the African millennium and global icon, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, will forever be protected and we will not allow it to be distorted or undermined.
