Police investigate report that young man from St. Bernard approached him – NTV

Burin Peninsula RCMP mounted police are investigating after receiving a report last night that a young man in St. Bernard’s was approached by a suspicious man in an SUV who offered him a lollipop and invited him into his vehicle.

The young man was fishing at Big Pond in the community at about 7 p.m. when an unknown man drove up and stopped. The man, whose accent led the boy to believe he was not from the area, was described as being in his 50s, with a tanned complexion, brown hair and a very short beard.

The SUV is described as white, possibly a Mitsubishi Outlander, with the letters “JE” at the end of the license plate. The young man escaped unharmed, ran home and reported the incident to his parent, who then contacted police.

Burin Peninsula RCMP are looking for dashcam or surveillance footage that may have captured the vehicle in the area. Anyone with information that could assist in the investigation is asked to contact Burin Peninsula RCMP at 709-279-3001.
