Internet users “ridicule” NAPO for belittling Nkrumah’s achievements

Social media users have reacted to the comment made by Energy Minister and Vice Presidential Candidate on the construction of a nuclear power plant, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, alias NAPO, during his official presentation in Kumasi.

On Tuesday, July 9, shortly after his presentation, at the rally venue, Dr. Opoku Prempeh, addressing party supporters, praised the achievements of the NPP as the best that Ghana has ever had under any other government.

He said that no president, including Dr Kwame Nkrumah, had developed Ghana better than President Akufo-Addo.

“I can safely say that if the history of Ghana is told since 1957, we have never had a president who has helped Ghana more than Nana Akufo-Addo. I mean, since 1957, even including Kwame Nkrumah, none of them has protected Ghana and developed the country more than Nana Akufo-Addo,” he said in Twi during the official unveiling at Jubilee Park in Kumasi on July 9, 2024.

However, Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s comment was met with dissatisfaction and slander from social media users.

Netizens, responding to the statement of vice presidential candidate Dr. Bawumia, criticized Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his comment and strongly opposed his claims.

One X user said: “This is the arrogance people are talking about, why mention Kwame Nkrumah? How many hours now when his grandfather advised him less than four hours? Look what he says. Character is like pregnancy, it will come out one day.”

Another tweeted: “Not even “your” Kwame Nkrumah. Money by heart.”

“I think NAPO should do the honorable thing and apologize to Ghanaians and all of Africa for speaking out against Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in this way. Does he even know what it takes to build a concrete road from Tema to Accra? What about the Akosombo Dam?” wrote another person on X.
