Neelu Waghela on his character in ‘Dhruv Tara’: ‘My character has an emotional, loving and strong personality who always wants the best for her family’

“Dhruv Tara – Samay Sadi Se Pare” tells the story of Dhruv (Ishaan Dhawan) and Tara (Riya Sharma), interwoven with love and time travel. The show has moved from the 17th century to the 19th century, paving the way for a new story and new actors, with Pankaj Dheer and Neelu Vaghela joining the cast as Dhruv’s parents. In a candid conversation, veteran actor Neelu Vaghela talks about joining the show as Dhruv’s loving and compassionate stepmother.

What made you excited to join Dhruv Tara?

Firstly, I am very excited to be a part of Dhruv Tara as it is my first time associated with the channel. Secondly, Dhruv Tara is already a hit and I love the combination of Dhruv and Tara. I am glad to be a part of it. My character Raj Rani is a different character from the ones I have usually played. I think the audience will also be excited to see me in something different. It will be a welcome change for them as well.

Can you tell us a little about your role in the series?

It’s a very positive role and a strong character. I play a wife, a mother and finally a mother-in-law, so there are three types of emotions and feelings that I will portray. I love playing emotional roles and very lively and happy family roles and here I get a chance to do all of that. In the series, our family is very simple and easy to understand and the scenes are so beautiful that as an actor you enjoy playing such scenes.

What challenges did you face in portraying a character from the 19th century, especially in terms of mannerisms and language?

I faced many challenges. The tone in which Raj Rani speaks and portraying a woman from the 19th century was a bit of a challenge and there was some preparation time as we started shooting a bit earlier than expected. But I would like to thank the teams who helped me and guided me in my journey and transformation from Neelu to Raj Rani.

Raj Rani is described as a positive stepmother who loves all her children equally. How did you prepare for such a nuanced character?

She is a strong, positive and emotional character. Despite being a stepmother, she loves all her children equally, sacrificing many things for their well-being. Being a mother in real life, it was easy to fall into that shade of a character. In daily soaps, we often get more opportunities to portray a negative mother than a caring one. I love my character of Rajrani.

Can you share your thoughts on Raja Rani and Dhruv’s relationship and how it develops over the course of the show?

Dhruv doesn’t like Raj Rani that much because he feels she is not his real mother but here comes Raj Rani and decides to turn this negativity into positivity. This is what the audience will see through this mother-son duo and I hope at some point people will also relate to it. It’s an interesting character because unlike a regular stepmother, Raj Rani makes sure that the family is always together and all her children are loved equally. She always wants the best for her family.
What has been the audience’s reaction to your role so far?

Audiences love watching me in Rajasthani attire and I get a lot of calls from people who say they love my character in Dhruv Tara. So, it feels very good when fans like your performance and it motivates us as actors to do our best for them.
