Sentry opens fire after suspicious movement in Jammu Kashmir’s Udhampur

Just two days after terrorists attacked an Indian Army convoy, killing five soldiers, an exchange of fire was reported at Sang Police Picket in Basantgarh tehsil of Udhampur district, said Joginder Singh, SSP Udhampur. While some reports claimed that terrorists started firing, following which troops retaliated and terrorists fled the spot, the official said that a police post sentry fired several shots in the air in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday after spotting suspicious movement.

“The sentry opened fire towards the tree line after spotting suspicious movement. People should refrain from spreading unconfirmed posts,” the official told IANS. Notably, there has been a huge spike in reports of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

A massive search operation has been underway in Kathua district for the past three days following an incident in which five soldiers were killed and five injured.

Security forces have also strengthened their presence in forest areas of Udhampur, Reasi, Ramban and Doda districts of Jammu division.
