Pender County High School Coaches Salaries and Ticket Revenue

After analyzing how much money New Hanover County public high schools make from sporting events, it’s time to evaluate Pender County.

Pender County’s three public high schools — Topsail, Trask and Pender — vary in size and NCHSAA classification. In Hampstead, Topsail (4A) averaged 1,958 daily members for the 2023-24 school year, more than 2.5 times more than Trask (2A) and Pender (1A), which both had ADMs of about 750.

With such a disparity in the size of the schools, it’s not surprising that Topsail attracts significantly more people at the gate than Trask or Pender. Here’s a breakdown of each school’s total gate and concession revenue for the 2023-24 school year, along with a list of coaching salaries.

Pender County High School Athletics Revenue 2023-24

Topsail: $163,707.86

Hampstead School leads the ranking, bringing in more than twice the admissions revenue of the school in second place.

The Pirates also brought in $64,289.54 in total concession revenue during the school year. Topsail also spent the most ($110,925.00) on coaching stipends last school year.

Cost: $71,371.75

The Rocky Point school, which reported an ADM of 763 for the 2023-24 school year, earned just over $70,000 this year.

The Titans collected $84,883 in concession revenue for the 2023-24 school year, the most of any high school in Pender County. Trask offers fewer sports than Topsail, which caused the school to spend $100,600, or about $10,000 less, on total coaching salaries.

Fee: $55,520.95

Pender, located in Burgaw, is the smallest high school in the area. For the 2023-24 school year, ADM has 740 students.

Pender ranked last in total concession revenue, bringing in $46,342. Last school year, the school spent a total of $92,355 on coaches.

Pender County High School Athletic Coaching Scholarships 2023-2024

Like New Hanover County, most positions in Pender County High School Athletics are paid on a stipend basis. Coaches also receive a 5% incentive for obtaining a commercial driver’s license.

Coaches receive a flat salary the month they retire from coaching. College football head coaches and high school athletic directors receive an 11-month salary, and athletic directors receive an additional $3,000 summer stipend for July.
