Scientific Games wins Communitas Awards 2024 for environmental initiatives and social partnerships

The company’s new UK facility and Montreal urban farm gain global recognition

ATLANTA, July 10, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — Scientific Games has been recognized with two 2024 Communitas Awards for its commitment to operating in a socially and environmentally responsible manner. With a focus on serving communities around the world, Scientific Games helps lotteries generate tens of billions of dollars annually to fund their charitable programs, including health and social care, education and the environment. The global lottery company won in the Ethical and Environmental Responsibility: Green Initiatives category for its new, state-of-the-art facility serving The National Lottery in the UK. Scientific Games also won in the Corporate Community Service: Community Partnership category for its unique urban farm at Montreal campus.

The Communitas Awards honor companies that go beyond rhetoric and whose commitment sets them apart from the competition. Communitas honorees are committed to changing the way they do business to benefit their employees, communities, and the environment.

Communitas Green Initiatives Award 2024: The environmentally focused 92,000 square metre Scientific Games National Logistics Centre for UK Scratchcards opened in February in the industrial town of Warrington to efficiently deliver scratchcards to around 40,000 National Lottery retailers across the UK. Using eco-friendly construction methods and as many recycled materials as possible, the facility is powered entirely by 100% renewable energy, partly from solar panels. No fossil fuels are used for heating or other day-to-day operations. Energy efficient lighting is used throughout the facility and the equipment is built on a circular economy model. All internal transport is by electric trucks. There are on-site EV chargers for electric vehicles. The cardboard used to make the National Lottery scratchcards is Forest Stewardship Council certified. Waste is segregated and managed in line with the company’s zero waste to landfill policy.

Communitas Community Partnership Award 2024: City Farm at Scientific Games Montreal The campus was created in partnership with local nonprofit La Cuisine Collective Hochelaga-Maisonneuve to serve the local community with fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition to providing fencing and funding for water and electricity for the farm, the company built a greenhouse. Scientific Games employees volunteer their time and energy to plant, harvest, and deliver produce from the farm to more than 40 local community kitchens and other organizations.
