The people of Fourways show their hearts

Residents from the Fourways area turned out in droves to support the worthy cause, with charity RE/Max Coats and Cans providing warmth and food to those in need.

The community initiative, hosted by Susan Mottram of RE/Max Masters, Chrisna Strydom of Riche Attorneys and Lyn and Theo Ras of On a Roll restaurant in Fourways, aimed to collect blankets, clothes and non-perishable food items for homeless people and pets.

“It’s all about helping people in need. It’s one of RE/Max’s annual charity drives. I have to say the people of Jozi in Fourways have hearts of gold; we’ve managed to collect a lot of donations,” said Susan Mottram, the charity’s organiser.

“We will deliver them to the Johannesburg Organisation of Services to the Homeless (Josh) and Cradle of Hope charity homes. Both are registered charities that care for homeless people.

“In these frigid temperatures, I’m grateful we have a platform to help others in need.”

The response was overwhelming, with the community delivering a wide range of goods to the designated collection point at On a Roll Restaurant.
“This is a wonderful reminder that our community cares deeply about those in need. We are grateful to everyone who participated and donated to this worthy cause.

“Even though the weather was freezing, many kind-hearted people came to donate to help the needy and animals,” said Lyn Ras, owner of On a Roll restaurant and co-sponsor of the charity drive.

“We have been delighted with the response to our charity drive. We have filled six large boxes and many bags with food, clothes and blankets,” added Mottram.

The atmosphere was electric and Theo Ras took to the stage to entertain guests with his soulful singing. The highlight of the evening was the drawing of a basket, generously sponsored by all three participating organisations. The lucky winner, Gayle Defranceski, was delighted to receive the prize.
