Trainer Flo opens new studio aimed at improving the health and fitness of local residents

An award-winning volleyball coach and personal trainer has opened a new fitness studio in North Staffordshire.

Flo Owen is expanding her aptly named training company Go With The Flo and is aiming to appeal to a new audience of people who want to improve their health but may feel uneasy about joining a traditional gym.

Aged just 26, Flo, from Stoke-on-Trent, saved up and used it to build a well-equipped fitness studio in part of her garden.

It’s a family affair, with Flo’s brother Rob, a real estate business owner and designer, working to design the new studio to Flo’s specifications.

The building has a large gym with a mirror, squat rack and weightlifting platform, as well as a variety of free weights, kettlebells and dumbbells. Bi-fold doors lead to a grassy outdoor exercise area.

The studio in Penkhull opened on Monday and is offering fitness classes.

Flo said: “As well as my passion for fitness and sport, I have been involved in entrepreneurship since my teenage years, which helped me set up my business and save money to invest in my new studio.

“Go With The Flo was founded three years ago, but opening a studio is a big step forward.”

With qualifications in personal training and nutrition to a higher level, as well as qualifications in sports massage, Flo is able to offer clients a holistic training experience.

She combines her own work at Go With The Flo with one day a week working as a Health, Nutrition and Lifestyle Specialist at Swan Health and Rehabilitation, a renowned centre in Keele.

She is also the Head Volleyball Coach at Staffordshire University, and the university named her Coach of the Year for the 2023/24 season.

Flo said the intimate nature of her new studio, combined with its location in a residential area, will help her encourage more people to work on their health and fitness.

She explained: “Many people find the idea of working out in a corporate-style gym in a business park intimidating, perhaps even intimidating. The Go With The Flo studio is tucked away in a garden and offers small group classes and one-to-one training sessions.

“I am confident in my ability to attract new audiences and help them grow while providing benefits to their physical and mental well-being.”
