Students celebrate ‘exceptional’ results at Newbury College and University Centre Newbury

From engineering marvels to creative masterpieces, Newbury delighted the entire community with a year-end exhibition.

Students from Newbury College and University Centre Newbury showcased their talent and innovation at the second annual UCN Expo last week.

UCN and Apprenticeship Award Winners with Principal Iain Wolloff and Local Deputy Mayors

Students from fields such as engineering, graphic design, and child development and education showcased their hard work to dignitaries, employers, and community members.

Deputy Principal for Higher Education and Skills Jo Houghton said: “UCN students have demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical prowess.

“It is an honor to share my accomplishments with local employers and celebrities, showcasing the future leaders and innovators of our community.”

The event included an awards ceremony and afternoon tea attended by Deputy Mayor of Newbury David Harman and Deputy Mayor of Thatcham Petra Pemberton, as well as local employers who support UCN’s higher education and degrees programmes.

The ceremony also saw the announcement of the winners of the 2024 Apprenticeship Awards, which were announced during National Apprenticeship Week.

The following day (3 July) saw a celebration for Foundation Learning students, hosted by Deputy Principal Lee Hunt and Head of Foundation Learning Leanne Butters.

Career Academy students receive awards from Principal Iain Wolloff

Newbury College later honored the Career Academy students with a special ceremony to celebrate their achievements and growth.


Awards were given for the best development and best contribution in each area of ​​study, highlighting the outstanding progress and commitment of students.

Each subject group nominated students for their contribution to the development of the university or its programme.

Principal Iain Wolloff and Mr Hunt presented the awards and the list of winners was published by Newbury College.

Mr Hunt said of the day: “Celebrating our students’ achievements is always a highlight.

“These young people have shown extraordinary growth and resilience, overcoming adversity and achieving personal milestones.

“It’s inspiring to see their hard work pay off, and we’re proud to support them as they embark on their next adventure.”
